Prevention of Coronavirus

Prevention is better than cure. Since there is no effective treatment or vaccine available for Coronavirus, the best defence is to avoid being infected and reduce your exposure to the virus.

These are some simple and easy-to-do preventive measures that you can incorporate into your daily lives:

  • Hand washing
Washing your hands as often as practical for a minimal duration of 20 seconds is the best way to reduce the number of germs in your hands and prevent you from infecting yourself and spreading those germs to others.
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
The next best alternative to washing your hands is to use a hand sanitizer with a minimum of 60% alcohol content.
  • Keep your hands away from your face
Avoid rubbing your eyes, nose or touching your mouth with your hands especially if you have not washed or clean them.
  • Keep away from sick people
Avoid close contact with people who are unwell and crowded places or high-risk areas such as the hospital or medical clinics.
  • Stay away from people when sick
Do not report to work if unwell. Stay home to rest and recuperate.
  • Wear a face mask
Wear a face mask when sick to prevent infecting others.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue paper
Covering your mouth or nose when you cough or sneeze prevent the germs from spreading. Use a tissue instead of your hands to prevent the germs from contaminating your hands. Dispose of your used tissue properly into the trash bin. Do not leave it lying on the table or floor.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces
Wipe or clean frequently contacted surfaces such as table, doorknobs, keyboards and mobile phones with a disinfectant.
