Diagnosis of Coronavirus

Making a diagnosis of coronavirus infection is similar to determining a common cold infection which will involves reviewing your medical history, symptoms and physical examination. Blood tests or lab tests of swab sample from nose or throat may be ordered for more severe infection.

As for the diagnosis of the Wuhan 2019-nCoV infections, in addition to the above information collected, the patient’s travel history to the China or any other infected countries will also be reviewed by the healthcare providers. While travel history can be easily be obtained and verified, the more challenging task will be to obtain the history of contacts to people who may have exposure to the virus.
